Short Article about Awareness

Awareness. I've been watching a lot of Rupert Spira videos lately. I have to be careful of what I say; "the feeling you get from the man" and "the genius that guy is" are inappropriate in the context of a discussion of awareness. Instead I would be more apt to say, the deep feeling of understanding one achieves from watching one's own understanding reflected through the objectified image of another is like a spark catching the flame of consciousness, burning into a bright glow of warmth and remembrance that one isn't merely a physical body walking around causing problems.

I used to be obsessed with philosophy. I loved to argue. There has come now, a realization that philosophy is not something you study to flex your theoretical muscles upon the intellectual and academic world. Philosophy leads to an end, and that end is yourself. There is nothing known outside of yourself. Yes, yes, objective reality looks rather real - but this objective reality always takes place in the context of a subjective perceiver. There is no provable objective reality outside of oneself. To believe in a separate objective reality outside of yourself is precisely that, a belief. The body you perceive, the environment you perceive, all of it takes place within the witnessing subjective awareness. There is no need for philosophy beyond this point. The point of philosophy is to lead you to unity in the knowledge of oneness - the ancient greeks called this gnosis.

Gnosis literally means knowledge. The only knowledge is that of Self. In the Bhagavad Gita, an ancient spiritual parable about Krishna instructing his warrior disciple Arjuna, he teaches the same lesson: there exists only one being, and that being is the magical dreamer of the whole cosmos. We are the manifestation of that beings desire to love itself.

Emanuel is a poet-adventurer who loves to inspire new and invigorating ideas, with the goal of helping nudge our world in the direction of freedom and peace. You can read some of his and others' spontaneous poetry here.
